Science After School

After-school science programs represent prime settings for youth to engage in and learn science. Such programs provide freedom for inquiry and student centered activities that support engagement in quality science learning opportunities.

Mission Statement

Provide inquiry based Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) enrichment that encourages children’s natural curiosity about the world around them.  To aid children to contribute to a competitive global workplace.  This includes the ability to think critically and solve complex problem.

Instructor Biography

The instructor for Science Quest is Erin Jones.  Ms. Jones  is a former science teacher from Los Angeles, California. She received her B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland at College Park.  Her science experience also includes employment by Exxon Research Company in Houston as a Geophysical Analyst and as an Intelligence Analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) in Washington, D.C.

While teaching in Los Angeles, she also worked as an advisor for the University of Southern California (USC) Math, Engineering, Science Achievement Program (MESA).  MESA is an after school hands-on-science program throughout California that encourages students to consider and explore a career in the sciences.

Erin’s scientific awards include a scholarship from the School of Field Studies in which she traveled to Kenya, East Africa to study Wildlife Management and an Earthwatch Educator’s Fellowship to participate in an archeological dig in the West Indies. In 2010, she served as the Louisiana Delegate to the Mom Congress in Washington, D.C. sponsored by Parenting Magazine and Georgetown University.
